FAQ: Lifestyle Medicine

Have questions about our lifestyle medicine services, appointments, or treatments? Here are some common questions and answers to help you get the information you need.

Lifestyle Medicine focuses on using evidence-based lifestyle changes to prevent, treat, and manage chronic conditions. It emphasises the importance of a healthy diet, regular physical activity, stress management, sleep quality, and other habits to improve overall health and well-being. Unlike traditional medicine, which often focuses on medication, Lifestyle Medicine helps individuals make lasting changes that enhance their long-term health.

Lifestyle Medicine can improve your overall health by addressing the root causes of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and hypertension. By making small but impactful changes to your lifestyle, you can reduce your risk of disease, improve your energy levels, manage stress, and even improve your mental health and quality of life.

Lifestyle Medicine can help manage and improve a wide range of conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, sleep disorders, digestive issues, stress, and anxiety. It can also support mental health, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall well-being.

Common lifestyle changes include adopting a balanced diet, increasing physical activity, improving sleep hygiene, managing stress through mindfulness or relaxation techniques, avoiding smoking, reducing alcohol intake, and fostering stronger social connections. These changes are tailored to meet your individual health needs and goals.

Starting with Lifestyle Medicine involves a detailed consultation with one of our specialist GPs, who will assess your current health, lifestyle habits, and medical history. Based on this assessment, a personalised plan will be developed to guide you toward making healthier choices and achieving your health goals.

While Lifestyle Medicine focuses on making lifestyle changes, it may work alongside prescribed medications, especially if you have an existing condition. Our doctors will work with you to determine if medication is still necessary and help monitor your progress as your lifestyle changes begin to improve your health.

Results from Lifestyle Medicine vary depending on the individual and the changes made. Some people may notice improvements in energy, mood, or sleep within a few weeks, while others may take a few months to see significant changes, especially with chronic conditions like diabetes or heart disease. The key is consistency and commitment to long-term lifestyle changes.

Yes, Lifestyle Medicine can be beneficial for everyone, regardless of age or current health status. Whether you're looking to improve overall health, prevent chronic conditions, manage stress, or treat an existing health issue, Lifestyle Medicine provides a holistic approach that can be adapted to your needs.
